Simple Gull Netting Installation Guide
What you'll need:
- Basic tools
- Straining wire
- Eyebolts (main fixings)
- Pins, rivets, or rackets (intermediate fixings)
- Ferrules or wire rope grips
- Hook/eye barrel strainers
- Cable ties
- Hog rings
Step 1: Install the perimeter wire
- Begin by installing a wire perimeter around the area you want to protect.
- Fix eyebolts (main fixings) every 10 meters and at any points where the wire changes direction.
- Add intermediate fixings (pins, rivets, or rackets) at appropriate intervals depending on the bird species.
Step 2: Set up and tension the wire
- Run the wire from one eyebolt to the next.
- Secure the wire to the first eyebolt using 2 ferrules or wire rope grips.
- At the other end, loop the wire through a hook/eye barrel strainer and attach the hook to the eyebolt.
- Tighten the wire using the strainer. For runs over 10 meters, install tensioned cross-wires as needed.
Step 3: Attach the gull netting
- Start by securing a corner of the net to a corner fixing with a cable tie.
- Hog ring every mesh of the net to the wire, keeping the net tight and square.
- Ensure there are no gaps or holes where birds could enter.
